Jesus at Wal-Mart caught me by surprise. At first I thought, "that's a weird title" but I decided to take a look at the sample. The plot and characters were interesting so I purchased the book. (Great price helped too) it was delightful and well written. As a Christian I am encouraged to share Jesus where I am too. The reason I have this book 4 stars instead of give is because I would have liked a little more time spent Malachi and Annie's failed marriage. I have been angry with God for sometime. This novel was God's way of bringing me back to Him, on his terms.
This is not the kind of literature I would normally read, yet I found this book most interesting and touching. The story line kept me reading as the protagonist, a Christian Minister, faced a number of seriously negative issues in both his professional and private lives and learned how to turn those negatives into positives while working as a shelf-stocker on the night shift at Walmart. I gave this book 4 stars because it needs some editing, but overall I felt positively touched by the messages contained within, and I am glad I was fortunate enough to find and read it.
This book is about a man who has his whole life shaken. His wife, his prominent place in his church, his relationships with all the people his life had been focused on... As he moves away from his life he feels like he is done with God and that God is done with him... But God has other plans. God opens better paths for him than he thought he could have. It's a good reminder that God doesn't often work the ways we think He should, but if we follow Him and love and trust Him, He will open us up for happiness that we never thought to have.
Wasn't sure what to think at the beginning of the book. The more I read the better it got! If your doubting your faith in God this book has a clear message for you!!
A nice read, a bit on the light side with respect to character development and story line but, contains a nice message with an interesting setting. The author has potential and seems sincere in his love for Jesus. That being said, the author definitely needs an editor skilled in proper punctuation, grammar, etc. I look forward to watching this author develop his skills and publish deeper more well developed story lines and characters.
This book is beautiful. I came across it by accident - popped up as a sponsored item on one of my own books pages - and at just the right time in my life. If you are looking for a great story, or to learn about Jesus, or to launch a missional community (which I in process of doing right now - hence the book popped up at the right time), this book is for you. There were moments that brought tears to my eyes (Malachi's response to Gert and Erin wrecked me). I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy. Can't recommend this highly enough.
I'm a Christian so consider my bias, but I like a book about a Christian struggling with life. The main character is portrayed as a believer and a seeker of truth, he is doing his best and finding it difficult to become the man he should become -- just like everyone else. He wins some, he loses some, but he keeps moving. Thoughtfully written, not trite.
